Summer is the time  everybody heads out. It’s a time where we absorb the sun,  walk more, drink more water, breath fresh air, get away with family and friends at a lake , beach or vacation in the mountains.

With COVID-19, and the fires in California people have been isolating. We have seen a rise in anxiety and depression. This is not due only to isolation but also  the decrease in movement, decrease in sun exposure and the decrease in fresh fruits and vegetables. 

As an Integrative Medicine practitioner and psychotherapist  my concern is that the majority of us are not storing the vitamin D, C and other nutrients that we need to sustain us during the winter months. These vitamins and minerals are important for our immune system during the flu and cold winter season..

Because of this year’s Shelter-In-Place I see patients with levels of Vitamin D that are shocking. These low levels are damaging to our physical and emotional health.
